Lawyers for REMINESE MACKIE nee Remy Ma, are hoping to give the jailed rapper one heck of a Christmas gift – A ticket home.
Remy’s representatives have filed an appeal to get Ma’s conviction overturned. William Murphy, the rappers attorney, claims there were several “mishandling’s” by the judge. He’s hoping he can secure bail for Remy while the case is out on appeal.
You may recall Remy was convicted of assault, illegal weapons possession and attempted coercion back in May of this year. The charges stem from the shooting of Makeda Barnes-Joseph, Martin’s friend whom she accused of stealing $3,000 from her purse during a party at a NYC night club back in July of 2007. Martin was convicted of shooting the woman and then fleeing in a Cadillac Escalade – which hit a park car – at which point Martin abandonded the vehicle and fled on foot. Remy has always mantained the shooting was an accident.
If Remy’s conviction is not overturned, the rapper won’t be scheduled for a possible release until the summer of 2011.
