In our continuing NOTORIOUS coverage (we REALLY want you to see this film), we’re tackling the recent controversy surrounding one of the movies central relationships.
Rapper and Biggie protege LIL KIM has been very vocal in her displeasure of what she calls the mishandling of her character in the new FOX Searchlight film.
The film studio and producers involved were more concerned about painting me as a ‘character’ to create a more interesting story line instead of a person with talent, self-respect and who was able to achieve her own career success through hard work … Even though my relationship with Big was at times very difficult and complicated (as with most relationships we have all experienced at one time or another), it was also genuine and built on great admiration and love for each other. Regardless of the many lies in the movie and false portrayal of me to help carry a story line through, I will still continue to carry his legacy through my hard work and music.
Kim boycotted the films premiere and numerous screenings, as was expected. Many say she pulled out of the project very earl on after reading an early draft of the script.
The films original writer, CHEO HODORI COKER (the Biggie biographer and author of the book on which the film was based) spoke to the Associated Press at the films premiere last week and he made an appeal to Kim and addressed her concerns.

In spite of myself, I really want to see this movie. Although the clips that were just showed did not fuel that desire:) something about the dialog irks me..
