“(I told my mother) ‘I just want you to know that I love you, but I’m gonna take a baseball bat one day while you are at work, and I’m gonna kill him.’ He used to hit my mom…He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day…’ I hate him to this day.”
CHRIS BROWN speaking to Giant Mag in a 2007 interview, speaking about his family history of physical abuse. Brown’s stepfather reportedly used to abuse his mother Joyce Hawkins, from the time Brown was 7 to 13 years old.
All of this becomes relevant now as Brown now faces charges of Felony Criminal Threats following an early Sunday morning incident in Los Angeles where Brown alledgedly assaulted girlfriend RIHANNA.
Brown later turned himself into police and was released on $50,000 bond.
”I don’t want to mention the person’s name – it wasn’t my real father – but somebody hurt my mom and me, I had to deal with that from seven all the way to 13. It affected me, especially (my behaviour) towards women – I treat them differently. I don’t want to put a woman through the same thing that person put my mom through. I was scared and timid when I was little. I used to pee in my bed… I think it was me being nervous, and scared to get up (out of bed) and see what was going on. My mom used to try and hide it from me and my sister, but we knew. Anybody that’s going through it, just try to deal with it, talk it out.”
Chris also went on to sa that he gained confidence by studying martial arts – a skill which eventually came in handy during a fight with several classmates in school. However after the fight, it was mom Joyce who wanted to go to the police, but Brown saw the situation differently.
“Don’t go to no cops pressing no charges,” he reported begging her, “like we don’t do that in the hood.”
Brown is due in court on March 5th. In the meantime he’s retained celeb go-to attorney Mark Geragos for this matter.

i love chris brown a lot but i diint like when i did that but he is fine sexy nothing is going to change that,
i think chris brown shouldnt go to jail because the if somebody gets hit, the average person is ggoing to hit them back. rihanna should have never been harassing him in public. i think he deserves another chance and just keep him away from rihanna for a while and until they get things settled out. He used to be one of my favorite singer because he is from my hometown virginia nad he has a great voice. they didnt make ike suffer for hitting tina so they shouldnt make chris brown suffer also.
[...] My sincerest hope when I see them out there, looking at each other lovingly, slapping each other and making kissy faces at each other, is that they remember the abuses their mothers suffered through, that they’ve seen in their own neighborhoods, and step far away from the gloomy examples of their present day. Girls that look up to Rihanna and boys that want to dance like Chris Brown need someone that’ll show them what a real and successful relationship looks like (Chris Brown himself hasn’t really had that).
