MARIAH & MO’NIQUE’S ‘PRECIOUS’ MAKES HISTORY IN TORONTO, OSCARS BECOME REAL

And just like that, the early Oscar buzz for the highly-anticipated Lee Daniels film Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire has become real. The heart-breaking drama about a struggling teen, pulled off yet another dark-horse victory and took home the coveted audience prize at this year Toronto Film Festival. And with surprising performances from MO’NIQUE and MARIAH CAREY, the indie flick now has a real shot at Oscar gold.

While winning Toronto is a fete in itself, combined with the audience prize the OPRAH & TYLER PERRY backed flick took home at the Sundance Film Festival in February, Precious becomes the only film in history to win both.

This also bodes well for its eclectic cast led by veteran funny-woman Mo’Nique who’s  turn as the abusive mother to the title character (newcomer GABBY SIDIBE), has garnered her an early Best Supporting Actress buzz.

Rounded out with PAULA PATTON and scoring by LENNY KRAVITZ, Precious opens nationwide on November 6th.
