Celebs + Twitter = A whole lot of foolishness.
This afternoon, after ‘hearing’ that T-PAIN made an alleged disparaging remark about him via twitter, rapper FABOLOUS took to his own tweet camp to fire back at the auto-tune singer/producer. Using the hastag #tpainbetter, Fab combined wit and dark humor to ether the Tampa native and quickly get some of his 200,000 followers to join in.
Only one problem, T-Pain never made the inciting remarks – They were actually sent from a fake account. Whomp whomp. After laying dormant for several minutes, Fab then resurfaced and offered an apology of sorts after nearly 40 minutes at the helm of a twitter-lynch mob, aimed right for T-Pain’s head. Sigh.
Dumb. Just dumb. Does Fab NOT have anything else to do? You mean to tell me NO ONE has sent him a beat that needs a verse? There’s no video he should be shooting? There’s no dentist he should be consulting about his chipped tooth situation?
So join us as we take a look at the Top 5 Dumbest Things You Can Do On Twitter…Fab of course being #5
4. Tweet About Ongoing Legal Situations – This one is dedicated to Tila Tequila who just days after allegedly being assaulted by boyfriend (San Diego Charger) Shawne Merriman, took to her twitter page to bad-mouth the man who has yet to formally be charged. From allegations of his steroid abuse to linking to old pictures of Merriman’s questionable club behavior, Tila (a former reality star who was last linked to Ray J), went in for nearly two hours last night on her beau…that is until someone made her wise up. When we checked her page this morning, the tweets in questions had been erased. Seems perhaps someone hipped the domestic violence victim to a little things called ‘defamation of character’.
3. Use DM to Give Out Your Number Via A Mobile Device – In my 15 months on twitter, I’ve seen the numbers of everyone from Producer 9th Wonder to Trey Songz end up on the public timeline, accessible to anyone who follows them. And the bigger the celeb, the more followers. How does this happen? Well because most twitter mobile apps don’t automatically respond to a DM (or Direct Message which is meant as a private tweet between two people) as a DM. So something you think is going just to one person, very well may be seen by thousands.
2. Twitpic Nude Pics Of Yourself To @cthagod – Or to anyone for that matter. I can’t tell you HOW many time I’ve seen someone’s dangler or saggy breast simply because they – in a effort to impress – twitpic’d a nude pic, thinking it was private. Why they would think something that has the phrase ‘Public Timeline’ on the homepage is beyond me, but it never fails, within minutes what should’ve been kept private is now seen by thousands.
1. Delete A Controversial Tweet – Shout out to Asher Roth who just weeks before his debut album dropped made a less than smart tweet making reference to the Rutger’s women’s basketball team. Within minutes a debate raged over twitter – Was Roth racist? At one point, even veteran journalists weighed in, calling for an immediate apology – which came in the form of a tweet about 30 minutes after the offending update. But instead of letting it rest there, within an hour of the apology, Roth’s camp immediately changed the page and issued a statement via MTV, claiming the rappers page had been compromised. Side-eye. Sending a dumb or offending tweet makes you human. Stupid. But human. Covering up a dumb or offending tweet? That makes you look dishonest and untrustworthy.
So there you have it, that’s our list. What’s yours? Do You agree? Was Fab justified? Think Tila was just venting? Totally don’t get this whole twitter craze? We wanna know your thoughts. Weigh in below…

i Think that even if T-Pain didnt say or tweet “F*ck Fab” what came back what prob what everybody else had been feeling which is T-Pain and that whole autotune sh*t needs to fall off the face of the earth for a little while and even if Fab apologizes in person the damage has already been felt and if Fab takes it a step further to do a song with T-Pain to make up for it he in turn will lOOk more like a sucker than T-Pain does already…
I doubt fab is gonna do a song. But I thought his whole ‘Shoot first’ reaction was dumb. It did more damage to him than T-Pain…
You forgot change their account name.
I’m tweeting this..lol.
So lets see… the sending out your number on twitter by accident isn’t dumb if u were’nt aware that Ubertwitter didn’t allow DMs… I say this because I didnt see any fine print that made that clear… as far as Fab goes… well hey he’s human and probably should have researched it first but if he heard T-Pain say Eff Jay Z with his own ears, why would he not believe he would say Eff Fab for tweeting about it… as far as erasing tweets, its your timeline so you can do as you please…. yes all of these situations may be dumb, but at the end of the day your twitter is your business…. everything celebs do is under scrutiny already so lets not take all the fun out of twitter by over analyzing tweets.. good post though, makes for good conversation.
The whole “does he not have anything better to do” thing is moot. No one works 24/7. Everyone has free to act as foolishly as they like.
That being said, if you see a tweet coming from someone famous, personally, you oughta check their profile FIRST. The whole 900 followers tip coulda saved him a lot of energy.
As for PR Girl’s comment, yeah they can do as they please with their tweets. No one is saying they can’t. This post is just saying those are examples of dumb things done. Celebrities are the best examples, because they are more widely known, and people will pay attention more than if you said, “Yeah my girl did this once.”
