If you’ve been anywhere near a computer in the last 24 hours, then you’re well-aware that RIHANNA is in full media-blitz. In anticipation of her new album Rated R that drops November 23rd, the 21 year-old Bajan singer seems to have crafted a brilliant media strategy – Only talk about her.
In her much anticipated interview with Diane Sawyer – an excerpt of which was released this morning – Rih talks about the nightmare of having her battered and bruised face shown around the world. Rih (nee Robyn Rihanna Fenty) even goes on to admit that Brown was her ‘first big love’ but according to a promo that ran this morning, Rihanna is finally going to detail the events leading up to the heart-breaking beating she suffered at the hands of her then boyfriend CHRIS BROWN.
But there’s something interesting in her Glamour Mag for her ‘Women Of The Year’ cover story. Although Rih came across as clear, focused and determined to serve as the role model for young women also living with the secret of abusive relationships, when asked about how this has changed her image, Rihanna uses a choice of words that some perhaps might take as her admitting some fault.
Before, there was an innocence to me. It was a perfect image. So the minute I did something imperfect, it was a big deal. I think that’s what he was referring to: People forget that after we get to our hotel rooms at night, we take a shower, we watch TV, eat room service and do normal things. Behind it all, we are still human beings.
Now we are in NO WAY condoning Chris Brown’s actions on the night of February 8th. He was wrong. He got a fair and just punishment. And they both need to seek counseling. However there has long been speculation that the violence that began in that rented Lambo that night was actually sparked by Rih.
Although – due to the outcome with Rihanna clearly suffering more physically – it really wouldn’t matter now. But in the court of public opinion, let’s say Rihanna does admit that she struck him first or she initiated a fight, will you care? After eight months – after Brown’s admittance of guilt – will it change how you feel about the situation? Or are you pretty much over it at this point?

I agree 100% with you post, Chris was beyond wrong for hitting her but at the same time we tend to forget about the roles women can play in situations like this and but sides need to be addressed accordingly. They both need help. It’s sad how the whole situation played out.
