What does the prestigious Yale University, vampires and Brown Sugar all have in common? SANAA LATHAN, of course. The Tony nominated actress sits down in the UK to discuss the dichotomy of being an African American celebrity and being somewhat shunned in terms of tabloid media. The actress expresses the idea of the underlying discrimination as both a “good thing and a bad thing.” Take a look at the video. Leave your thoughts and comments below!

I like the snippet of the song TABLOID, otherwise what she is saying is most certainly true but in this day in age us as a people who are in the midst of twitter and dancing on youtube have the power if we wanted to create our own tabloid media such as what mediatakeout and other blog sites have done. The problem is that we choose to constantly buy into the machine, why is there only one Tyler Perry why havent others whether they are in music or film decided to join forces and create studio’s…why are we always waiting for a handout from the man and the industry. Yes the industry is a machine and has numerous amounts of dollars for marketing and t.v ad’s and fast food chain promotions. But if a P Diddy, and Russel Simmons and Spike Lee and a Will Smith and Denzel Washington decided to create their own media company such as what Speilberg did with SKG we wouldn’t have any problems with black actors and actresses not getting any good roles and work. Just my thoughts.
